Creating engaging charity explainer animations requires the ability to transform complex information into clear, accessible and memorable content. For Third Sector Support Wales, we developed a bilingual animated explainer designed to help charities, community groups, voluntary organisations and social enterprises understand the different legal structures available to them.

Produced in both English and Welsh, with custom subtitle (SRT) files created for accessibility and improved online discoverability, the animation demonstrates how motion graphics can simplify complex governance and legal topics for a wide audience.

Understanding the different legal structures available to charities and community organisations can be challenging, particularly for groups taking their first steps towards formal incorporation, and Working with Third Sector Support Wales, we created a clear and engaging animated explainer that guides viewers through four common organisational structures:

• Unincorporated Associations
• Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs)
• Charitable Companies Limited by Guarantee
• Community Interest Companies (CICs)

The animation helps organisations understand key considerations including trustee liability, charitable status, governance arrangements, membership structures, grant eligibility and regulatory requirements.

Turning Complex Information into Engaging Content

The project required us to communicate detailed legal and governance information in a way that would be accessible to volunteers, trustees, committee members and social entrepreneurs.

Through carefully considered script interpretation, visual storytelling and motion design, we transformed a potentially complex subject into a concise and engaging learning resource. Each legal structure was presented using clear visual metaphors and straightforward explanations, helping viewers quickly understand the differences and benefits of each option.

As the resource was intended for use throughout Wales, we produced the animation in both English and Welsh. To further improve accessibility, we also created bespoke subtitle (SRT) files for both language versions, enabling accurate captions across websites, YouTube and social media platforms.
