How does Wales make decisions that affect our daily lives?

With Wales now entering a new political chapter under a Plaid Cymru-led Welsh Government, understanding how our political system works has never been more important. Following the 2026 Senedd election, Members of the Senedd elected Rhun ap Iorwerth as First Minister, who then appointed Ministers to form the new government.

Our latest animation for the Bevan Foundation explains how the Senedd works, how governments are formed, who makes decisions on laws and policies, and how elected representatives hold the government to account.

Understanding these different roles is the first step towards making your voice heard and influencing the issues that matter to you and your community.

Watch the animation to learn more about how Wales is governed, and discover how you can engage effectively with the democratic process.
