Beyond the Border is Wales’ International Storytelling Festival – bringing stories and people together, from Wales and the World, through an inspirational bi-ennual festival and projects which deepen connection through the power of stories.

The festival is one of the leading storytelling festivals in the UK and showcases the best of storytelling from around the world and attracts visitors of all ages from across the UK and overseas.

In addition to the Festival weekend itself, BtB also promotes a year-round programme of performance storytelling events, as well as a wide range of innovative education and outreach projects.

Beyond The Border is also a member and contributor to FEST, the Federation for European Storytelling

Beyond the Border funds its activities through a combination of ticket sales, fund-raised income from individuals, Trusts & Foundations and commercial supporters, and public-sector funding, primarily Arts Council of Wales and Welsh Government Major Events Unit

Founded by David Ambrose, Ben Haggarty and a group of storytelling craving to bring quality storytelling to Wales, as well as showcase Wales to the world.

BtB began life in 1993, born out of the desire to:

Raise the status and increase understanding of storytelling as an artform suitable for all ages, adults as well as children.

Showcase performances by leading practitioners from Wales and the World involved in exploring the retelling of traditional stories for a contemporary audience.

Help develop and provide a platform for an emerging new generation of performance storytellers.
